I need to take some time off of work. Just the thought of doing so has put me back on track with my diet. I am taking two days off work and will spend them at a desert spot I like where there is a mineral swimming pool and not much else (no phones, no TVs, no radios, no Internet). They discourage employees from taking time off on my job, even when you have vacation days coming to you. On my job, we are half staffed, that is, everyone does the work of two people. And when anyone is out, is really creates problems for everyone else. So they don't encourage you to take time off. I am a teacher who teaches mentally ill people committed by the courts and I do not have a winter break, a spring break, a summer break or an official vacation time. It sucks. I work long hours and frequently do unpaid overtime on weekends to catch up on paperwork (since they took away our assistants last year). I get up early and come home late with no time for anything resembling a social life.
I need to take a few days off just to relax. And to enjoy swimming again, to remind myself what it feels like to do something healthy for myself. The place I am going to has kitchens with the rooms so I will take my NS diet with me.
I had to argue with the administrators to get these two days off right next to a weekend (giving me a total of 4 days of no work). A lot of words occur to me about my job but I won't post them on this board. It will be two more weeks before I get my little mini vacation but I am starting to look forward to it and just the thought that I am going to relax for a few days is helping to keep me on my diet.
