Noom
Psychology-based weight loss app that focuses on behavior change
Noom takes a different approach to weight loss by focusing on the psychology behind eating habits rather than just counting calories.
How It Works
You log your food (using a color-coded system), complete daily psychology lessons, and work with a coach. The emphasis is on understanding WHY you eat, not just what.
Our Testing Experience
After 3 months of testing, the daily lessons felt valuable for the first 6 weeks, then became repetitive. The food logging is solid but the color system can be confusing (some healthy foods are flagged yellow/red).
The Coaching
Coaches respond within 24 hours but feel more like accountability buddies than certified professionals. Responses often feel templated.
Pros
- Psychology-based approach addresses root causes|Clean, modern app interface|Daily lessons build awareness|No foods are completely off-limits
Cons
- Expensive at /month for annual plan|Coaching quality varies significantly|Color system can be confusing|Lessons get repetitive after 8 weeks
Our Recommendation
Best for people who have tried calorie counting and need help with the mental side of eating. Skip it if you just need a simple tracker.
