Homemade candied grapefruit or orange peel. Perfect for holiday gift-giving!
Ingredients
Peel from grapefruits or oranges, cut into strips
For each cup of peel:
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup water
Granulated sugar for rolling
Instructions
1. Cut peel into strips.
2. Place in pot with plenty of water and bring to boil.
3. Pour off water and repeat 4 more times (5 times total) to remove bitterness.
4. Measure peel. For each cup add 1/2 cup sugar and 1/4 cup water.
5. Boil in syrup until dry, stirring frequently.
6. Roll each piece in granulated sugar.
7. Place on cookie sheet to dry completely.
8. Store in airtight container to prevent drying out.
